Stepping Towards a Greener Tomorrow

Stepping Towards a Greener Tomorrow takes kids out of the back seat (figuratively and literally) and gets them involved in planning healthy communities.

STGT is a partnership with Ever Active Schools. It connects urban planners and city builders with students and teaches them about the design process, how to build healthy places, and how they can make a difference when it comes to climate change. By the end of the project, we’ll have initiatives created by and for kids, that turn their school communities into walkable, welcoming places with safe routes to school and safe routes to the grocery store. What benefits kids will benefit their neighbours! Check out #CoDesignWithKids to learn more and follow our progress!

announcement: PROJECT RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD!

Kids Reimagine School Streets is a 2024 National Urban Design Awards recipient this year! Through this program, students in three neighbourhoods worked with Ever Active Schools, Sustainable Calgary and SPECTACLE Bureau for Architecture and Urbanism to prototype walkable, safe and fun school streets.

Celia Lee, Executive Director of Sustainable Calgary and Lucia Blanco, landscape designer of the Connaught Open Street prototype accepted the award on behalf of the project team in May.
