Tools for Co-Designing Safe Routes to Schools

Created by Lucia Blanco, Jessie Anjelic, Tripty Kaur, Srimal Ranasinghe and Celia Lee.

How can we design safe and active routes with kids? These tools can help:

  • Use the Homework Sheet to explore what makes places enjoyable to be in

  • Use the Toolkit for Camps to evaluate the safety and walkability of school environments

  • Create a Community Portrait to synthesize feedback on the school environment and identify priority areas

  • Use the Streets and Spaces 101 slide deck to talk about the relationship between design, walkability and climate action

  • Use the Hack Your Routes slide deck to organize a design challenge

  • Use the Deck of Cards and put the GIF on the projector as inspiration / expand the realm of possibilities
